Kim Cattrall had a passive reaction to Sex and the City’s recent revival.
Earlier this week, SATC alums Sarah Jessica Parker, Cynthia Nixon, and Kristin Davis were confirmed to reprise their roles as Carrie Bradshaw, Miranda Hobbes and Charlotte York in an upcoming reboot of the beloved rom-com TV drama, titled And Just Like That…
Noticeably absent from the announcement, however, was Cattrall, who originated the role of the sex-positive fan-favorite character Samantha Jones on the show. It was revealed that the 64-year-old actress would not be returning for HBO Max’s revival project, and it appears the actress’ latest activity on Twitter reveals just why that is.
As E! News pointed out, hours after the news broke, Cattrall seemingly co-signed a fan’s assumption as to why she’s not rejoining the reboot by liking a tweet which read: "I absolutely love Sex and the City and whilst I am saddened that Samantha will not return, I applaud doing what is best for you and think this is great example of putting yourself first. Well done @KimCattrall."
Cattrall’s detachment from the Sex and the City franchise is not shocking news. As fans of the show will recall, the Filthy Rich star previously told the Daily Mail in July 2019 that she would “never” return to the franchise. “It’s a no from me,” Cattrall told the outlet at the time. “You learn lessons in life and my lesson is to do work with good people and try and make it fun.”
As explained in the show’s description, the revival “will follow Carrie, Miranda and Charlotte as they navigate the journey from the complicated reality of life and friendship in their 30s to the even more complicated reality of life and friendship in their 50s.”
The new reboot will consist of 10 half-hour episodes and production is expected to start this spring.
